TIPS TO PREPARE FOR
MOVING DAY

At S & S Moving Company, we take care of all your moving needs from start to finish. Whether you're moving across town or across the country, our team of experts will make sure your move is stress-free and seamless. Leave the packing, loading, and unloading to us so you can focus on settling in to your new home.

PACKING YOURSELF VS. USING A PROFESSIONAL

One of the first things to consider is whether you want to pack your items yourself or hire movers. While packing yourself can save money, professional packers have the expertise to pack items quickly and securely. You can have movers pack your whole house or just certain rooms, just ask about a solution that works your specific needs.

SAY GOODBYE TO UNUSED STUFF

If you have anything you no longer need or want, consider donating or selling them online or at a yard sale. This can help reduce the amount of stuff you must move and might even earn you extra cash. This could make moving and settling into a new home just a little bit easier.

PROPERLY BOX UP YOUR THINGS

Start by getting sturdy boxes and padding supplies. Make sure to use bubble wrap or packing paper to protect fragile items and fill empty spaces in the boxes to prevent items from shifting during transit. You can talk to your movers about protection for larger items when you book or anytime prior to move date. Remember, the better you pack, the safer your items will be.

PACK THE BASICS

You may want to consider packing some basics necessities such as a few changes of clothes and toiletries, so you don’t have to go through all your boxes as soon as you move.  There may also be certain items you want to pack and move yourself, such as valuable jewelry or important documents. Set all these items aside and let your movers know not to pack or move them.

LABEL & ORGANIZE

Label each box with its contents and the room it’s destined for in your new home. You can purchase labels or just use a marker whatever works for you. This will help your movers know where to place each box and make the unpacking process much easier.

REMOVE ALL FLAMMABLE ITEMS OR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

For safety reasons, movers cannot transport flammable items or hazardous materials. Dispose of these items properly or plan to move them yourself. If you are unsure of what movers can transport just call and ask prior to moving day. By following these steps, you can ensure a smoother moving day and help your professional movers do their job more efficiently. Remember, preparation is key to a successful move.

KEEP KIDS & PETS OUT OF HARM’S WAY

Keep your children and pets in a safe area during the move. You know how hard it is to move quickly around little ones who are crawling or walking nearby. It’s even harder when you’re carrying large furniture that you can’t always see over. Safety is important to movers, so just make sure they can move around easily without stepping on anyone while loading the truck. Moving day can be chaotic, so consider arranging for someone to look after your kids or pets.

RESERVE THE ELEVATOR & MAKE ROOM FOR THE TRUCK

If you live in an apartment, try to reserve an elevator for your move day. Sharing the elevator with all your boxes and furniture isn’t the best way to become friendly with your new neighbors. Plus, your move will be delayed if the movers must wait for the elevators to become clear and available. Also, make sure to have a space available for the truck that makes it easier for the movers to work more smoothly and efficiently.

WRAPPING UP

Overall, it’s important to remove any obstacles that could keep your movers from getting the job done quickly, efficiently, and safely. Now that you’re aware of some ways to make your move go smoothly, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

HAPPY MOVING!!!
